Sleep Apnea Patients Find Helpful Solution with CPAP Wireless Modem Device

Today the Federal Sleep Institute announced a revolutionary change to how patients, physicians, and companies can collect real-time data from a CPAP device.

MILWAUKEE, WI, May 13, 2010 /Wisconsin PR News/ -- Today the Federal Sleep Institute announced a revolutionary change to how patients, physicians, and companies can collect real-time data from a CPAP device. Through the use of a Phillips(R) Respironics Inc.(R) wireless modem that hooks directly into the back of a CPAP device, a patient's data can be transferred in real-time to involved parties. The data can be viewed from any where, at any time, via the EncoreAnywhere(TM) web-based browser, which is parsed into intuitive graphs and charts that give physicians a top-down view of a patient's breathing patterns, Apnea-Hypopnea Index (AHI), and other patient flow waveform data.

Beyond instantaneous access and the intuitive data output, the wireless modem ultimately helps patients in a number of ways. For example, a doctor who has access to the patient's sleep waveform patterns can quickly change the patient's prescriptions or update the device to a different setting all from his/her browser, if need be. On the insurance side of things, the captured information enables the provider to intervene to examine patient compliance data needed for assessing reimbursement. Moreover, companies with employees who use CPAP can monitor and collect information for their own compliance records and standards.

Overall, untreated Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) is an enormous liability from a safety standpoint. Undiagnosed OSA affects up to 15% of our entire population, making it a significant medical problem that can be the source of: obesity, high blood pressure, depression, excessive daytime sleepiness, irritability, and poor work performance. Untreated sleep apnea is a problem. Our system is the solution.
